TAKING TECHNOLOGICAL STEPS IN REGULATING SPENT OIL DISPOSAL AT FITTING SHOPS

Image
AUTHOR : YUSIF AHMED  DATE : JULY 08, 2024. Over the years, the discharge of spent vehicular oil had taken a reckless course by most garages, before the introduction of its reusable abilities by recycling companies.  Gutters, streets and the bare environment suffered stains of lubricants, particularly, spent vehicular oil, which is made visible often at rainy seasons, as a result of runoff waters, culminating erosion.  Although attributed to negligence on the part of most "fitters" who are often school drop-outs or were brought into apprenticeship as a result of high illiteracy, a heavier weight is placed on the inactive regulations of authorities in charge of the environment.  Where fitters take up to any available space without queries from authorities, the consequential effect is the fast depletion of natural resources by oil spills.  It is in this light, that the Environmental Protection Agency, EPA, takes a futuristic plan in designing a technological model...

UNKNOWN BENEFITS OF USED VEHICULAR OIL

AUTHOR: YUSSIF AHMED DATE: JULY 04, 2024 Oil is one of the most widely used commodities on the planet. Also one of the most common toxins in the environment. Recycling and reusing left over motor and vehicular oils is more environmentally friendly than throwing it away. They contaminate the environment if not recycled or disposed off appropriately.  Waste oil can be refined into lubricants, converted into fuel oils and used as a raw material in the refining and petrol chemical industries.  According to extensive laboratory research and field surveys, refined oil passes all necessary measures and in some cases, even surpasses pure crude oil. Because re-refining simply re-processes used oil into fresh, high quality lubricating oil, the same customers and businesses who use ordinary oil can also utilise it. Re-refined oil can be used by car maintenance facilities, automobile owners and other machinery maintenance operations that employ oil. Also waste oils create an avenue for j...

“THE ENVIRONMENTAL TOLL OF IMPROPER OIL DISPOSAL: A LOOMING CRISES”

Image
AUTHOR:Dorkenu Kate Yvonne IMPROPERLY DISPOSED USED OIL. Improper oil disposal poses a grave threat to our environment, affecting ecosystems, water quality, and human health. Let’s delve into the negative impacts and explore sustainable solutions. The Dangers of Abandoned Waste Oil From the 1960s to the 1980s, waste oil from military bases and auto dealerships was stored in tanks, some of which were partially buried. Over time, this oil leached into the surrounding soil, raising concerns about groundwater contamination. A stark example lies in Castro and Ellsworth, Maine, where 6,800 tons of contaminated soil were removed from a waste oil site. Abandoned waste oil drums eventually leak, endangering both wildlife and populated areas. Environmental and Economic Impact On Soil Contamination: Improperly discarded waste oil contains toxic substances like heavy metals and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs). These pollutants persist in the environment for years, renderin...

THE BIRTH OF VEHICULAR OIL

AUTHOR: BARBARA AGGREY  The practice of the use of vehicular oil, popularly referred to as engine oil, dates back to. in the early days of the automobile industry.
